Dosa

Dosa is one of the popular South Indian breakfast which is prepared using Idli rice and Urad dal/black gram. It is usually served with sambar or any kind of chutney. It is simple to make but tastes delicious at the same time.

Soaking time – 5 to 6 hours
Time required for fermentation – 8 hours or overnight
Cooking time – 10 to 12 minutes
Serves – 6

Ingredients:

Idli rice – 4 cups
Whole Urad dal  (Black lentil without skin) -1 cup
Fenugreek (Methi) seeds – 1 tsp
Salt as per your taste.

Method:

1. Wash the rice and the urad dal together until the water runs clear. Soak it in enough water to cover along with a tsp of methi seeds and leave aside for 5 to 6 hours.

2. Grind the rice and the urad dal well by adding water little by little while grinding. The batter should not be too smooth. Once it is well ground transfer it to a bowl and add required amount of salt and mix well. 3. Heat tawa/griddle on a medium heat. Pour 2 full ladles of dosa batter on the tawa and spread it evenly. Drizzle little oil and cook it evenly covered on a medium heat for 3 minutes. There is no need to flip the dosa to the other side.

Repeat the same for the rest of the dosa batter.
