Coconut Chutney

Coconut chutney is a common side dish in South India. It is very easy and quick to make. It is a great combination for Idli, Dosa, Pongal and Vadas.

Preparation time- 10 minutes
Cooking  time – 5 minutes
Serves  – 4

Ingredients

Coconut ( chopped into pieces or Grated ) – 1 cup
Roasted channa dal  – 3 tbs ( it’s your option. You can make without adding this too)
Garlic – 3 pods ( If you don’t like garlic,you can add 1/2 inch of ginger)
Green chillies – 4 or as per your taste
Tamarind – tiny piece ( half of the blueberry size)
salt to taste

For seasoning

Oil – 2 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Urad dal / black gram dal – 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves – few

Method

1. Grind all the ingredients in a mixer adding enough water.  Grind till it gets a smooth paste. Transfer the mixture into a bowl. Add salt according to your taste. Take 2 tsp of oil in a pan for seasoning. Add mustard seeds into the oil. When mustard seeds starts spluttering add urad dal and curry leaves. Fry few seconds and pour this seasoning into the chutney and mix it. Coconut chutney is ready to serve.
