Onion Uttapam

Onion Uttapam is another popular breakfast recipe in South India. It is similar to dosa but little thicker in size. There are many varieties of Uttapam but traditionally the toppings of the uttapam are onions, tomatoes & green chilies. Essentially dosa batter is what is needed to make the uttapam. It is often served with sambar or chutney.

Preparation time – 5 min
Cooking time – 10 min
Makes – 6 to 8 (approx)

Ingredients:

Dosa batter – 4 cups
Onions – finely chopped

Method:

Heat tawa/griddle on a medium heat. Pour 2 full ladles of the dosa batter on the hot tawa and gently spread a little. Generously sprinkle the finely chopped onions on top. Drizzle little oil. Cook it on a medium heat for 3 minutes.

Gently flip the uttapam to the other side and let it cook on a low flame for 2 minutes or until the onions gets nice and crisp.

 

The delicious Onion uttapam is all ready to enjoy with sambar or coconut chutney.
