Karasev

Karasev is a spicy and crispy Indian snack recipe which is very easy to prepare. It can be prepared for any festivals or other celebrations. It is prepared by mixing gram flour/besan and rice flour along with spices and deep fried. It is so delicious and it is a perfect tea time snack.

Preparation time – 15 min
Cooking time – 25 min
Serves – 4

Ingredients:

Gram flour/Besan – 2 cups
Rice flour – 1/4 cup
Black pepper – 1 tbsp coarsely crushed
Asafoetida/hing – 1/2 tsp
Salt – as required
Oil – 1 tbsp
Oil – required for deep frying

Method:

1. In a bowl add gram flour/besan and rice flour and mix well. Now add in required salt, asafoetida/hing, coarsely ground black pepper, 1 tbsp of oil and mix well. Add water little by little and mix well to form a smooth dough. The consistency of the dough should be like a chapati dough.

2. Heat oil in a deep pan for frying. Now take a murukku plate with 3 holes and place it in the murukku press. Fill the murukku press with the dough and gently press it in the hot oil in a circular motion. Fry it on a medium flame on one side till bubbles disappear. Gently flip it to the other side and fry till the bubble disappear on other side too.

3. Fry on both the sides till golden in color. Drain them on a paper towel to remove any excess oil. Once it is all cool down store it in a air tight container.

Enjoy this spicy and crispy Karasev as a evening snack with a cup of hot tea.
