This murungakkai / munagakaya masala is an all time favorite recipe in South India. This delicious dish is made with simple ingredients. It is a great combination for rice and roti. Let’s learn how to make this tasty drumstick masala.

Serves – 2
Ingredients:
Drumsticks / murungakkai – 2 cut into 3 inch pieces
Onion – 1 small chopped into pieces
Garlic – 3 pods chopped into pieces
Tomato – 1 small chopped into pieces
Chili powder – 1/2 tsp or as per your taste
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida/ Hing – a pinch
Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves – few
Oil – 2 tbs
Salt – as per your taste
Method:
1. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. When it starts spluttering add cumin seeds and curry leaves. After 30 seconds add chopped garlic pieces and chopped onions.
2. Fry the onions few minutes on a medium heat. Now add the chopped tomatoes into the pan. Fry until the tomatoes are nice and soft. Add chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, hing/ asafoetida and chopped drumstick pieces. Stir the mixture with the 1/2 cup of water. Add required salt and cover the pan and cook until the drumstick gets cooked well and the masala gets thicker. Turn off the stove.
