Plain Sev/Omapodi

Plain sev/Omapodi is a crispy and crunchy south Indian snack which is prepared using besan/chick pea flour. It is a very easy snack recipe yet taste delicious and it can be prepared during festive seasons. kids would love this snack and it is very well used as a garnish to all chaat recipes like Katori chaat and others.

Preparation time – 5 min

Cooking time – 10 min

Ingredients:

Besan/Chick pea flour – 1 cup

Salt – required as per taste

Water – required for mixing

Oil – required for deep frying

Preparation:

  1. In a mixing bowl add in the besan/chick pea flour, required salt and mix well. Add in water little by little and mix well until it forms a soft dough. The dough will be slightly sticky which is normal.
  2. Now take the muruku plate with the tiny holes and place it in the muruku maker. Slightly grease the muruku maker with little oil so that the dough doesn’t stick.
  3. Add the dough to the muruku maker and close it. Press and spread the dough into the hot oil in a circular motion.
  4. Flip it to the other side after a minute and fry well on both the sides. Once the sev is fried drain it on a kitchen paper to remove any excess oil.
  5. Repeat the same steps for the rest of the dough.
