Aloo tikki is a popular snack/appetizer recipe from the cuisine of North India and it is one of the Mumbai street food delicacies. It is a simple shallow fried snack recipe which is prepared from boiled and mashed potatoes along with few other spices. These delicious patties are usually served with tamarind chutney and green chutney but it can be served with tomato ketchup too. This quick and easy recipe is great for evening tea time snack or as a party starter.
Preparation time – 15 min
Cooking time – 20 min
Makes – 15 approx
Ingredients:
Potatoes – 3 medium sized boiled and mashed
Onions – 1 small sized finely chopped
Green chilies – 3 finely chopped
Ginger – 1 tsp finely chopped
Cilantro/coriander leaves – few finely chopped
Salt – as required
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp
Juice of half a lime
Corn starch – 1 tbsp
Oil – 6 tbsp approx for shallow frying
Method:
1. Boil the potatoes well and mash it.
2. Now add onions, green chilies, cilantro, green chilies, salt, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, corn starch and juice of half a lime to the boiled and mashed potatoes.
3. Mix well till everything is well combined.
4. Grease your hands and take a small portion of the potato mixture and flatten it slightly thick in the shape of a patty. Repeat the same for the rest of the potato mixture.
5. Heat 6 tbsp of oil and place the prepared potato patties. Let it get cooked on one side for 3 min and flip it to the other side. Allow it get golden and crisp on the other side.
6. Keep flipping and let it get cooked well so that it gets crispy and golden on both the sides.
Serve it hot along with green chutney, tamarind chutney or with ketchup.
