Bread Bonda

Bread bonda is a delicious Indian recipe which is served as a snack/appetizer. Bread bondas are crispy dumplings which are stuffed with a spicy potato and peas mixture and fried till golden in color.

Preparation time – 15 min
Cooking time – 25 min
Serves – 6

Ingredients:

Bread slices – 12
Potatoes – 2 medium sized
Frozen green peas – 1/4 cup
Onion – 1 medium sized finely chopped
Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Chili powder – 1/2 tsp or as per your taste
Salt – as per your taste
Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander leaves – few finely chopped
Oil – for deep frying

Method:

1. Pressure cook the potatoes for 2 whistles. Once it cools down peel the skin of the potatoes and mash them roughly and set side.

2. Heat 2 tsp of oil in a pan. Add in cumin seeds and saute for 30 sec. Now add in onions and cook till they are nice and tender.

3. Add in turmeric powder, coriander powder, chili powder, salt and mix well. Now add in the frozen green peas and the potatoes and cook for 5 min on a medium flame. Finally add in the chopped coriander leaves and mix. Set aside the potato and green peas mixture.

4. Gently trim the edges of the bread. Take some water in a broad vessel. Dip each of the bread slice in the water just for a second. Gently squeeze the water. Now stuff a tsp of potato and green peas mixture and seal it gently shaping like a ball as shown in the video. Repeat the same for the rest of the bread slices.

5. Heat oil for deep frying. Gently drop the prepared bread balls into the hot oil and fry till they are golden in color. Keep turning the bondas so that it gets even coloring on all the sides. Drain them on a paper towel and enjoy with some tomato ketchup.
