Masoor Dal Paratha

Masoor Dal paratha is a delicious Indian flat bread prepared using whole wheat flour. In this preparation the whole wheat flour is mixed with boiled masoor dal along with other spices which make this paratha very flavorful. Boiled Moong dal can also be used to prepare this recipe. It can be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is perfect for lunches too. It can be eaten with yogurt or pickle on the side.

 

Preparation time – 15 min
Cooking time – 20 min
Serves – 4 to 6

Ingredients:

Whole wheat flour – 2 cups
Masoor dal – 1 cup boiled
Red onion – 1 medium sized finely chopped
Coriander leaves/cilantro – few finely chopped
Salt – as required
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Green chilies – 1, finely chopped
Ajwain – 1/2 tsp
Oil – 2 tsp for mixing the dough
Oil – required for cooking the paratha

Method:

1. Wash a cup of masoor dal for couple of times and soak it for 20 min. Drain the water and add it to the pressure pan along with 2 cups of water and turmeric powder. Mix well and cover the pressure pan. Let it whistle for 2 to 3 times or till the dal is well cooked. Set aside the boiled dal.

2. In a bowl add in the whole wheat flour. Add required salt, ajwain seeds and mix well. Now add in the chopped onions, cilantro, green chilies, a tsp of oil, boiled dal and mix well. Knead the dough well until it is nice and soft. Add a tsp of oil and mix well and set aside for 20 min.

3. Divide the dough into small equal portions. Take each ball and sprinkle some flour. Gently roll it. The rolled paratha should be slightly thick. Repeat the same for the rest of the dough.

4. Heat tawa on a medium heat. Place the rolled paratha and cook well on one side for a minute or two. Flip it to the other side and apply little oil on top. Apply oil on both the sides and cook well.

Enjoy this soft and delicious Masoor Dal Paratha with yogurt or pickle on the side.
