Gobi Manchurian

Gobi Manchurian is a popular recipe from Indo Chinese cuisine. There are two varieties of Gobi Manchurian one is a dry version which is usually served as a snack/appetizer and the other one is a gravy version which is typically served as a side dish for many Indo Chinese dishes. Both the recipes require similar ingredients like Gobi, Maida/all purpose flour, Corn flour and other spices. This is a dry version of Gobi Manchurian which is usually served as a starter/appetizer and is a popular street food in India. It is one of the kids favorites.

Preparation time – 20 min
Cooking time – 25 min
Time for marination – 30 min
Serves – 4 to 6 approx

Ingredients:

Gobi/Cauliflower – 20 florets
Bell peppers/Capsicum (any color of your choice)  – 1 cup finely sliced lengthwise
Tomato Ketchup – 2 tbsp or as per taste
Soy sauce – 1 tbsp
Salt – as required
Ginger and garlic – 1 tsp finely crushed
Onion – 1 medium sized finely sliced lengthwise
Oil – 2 tbsp

Ingredients required for marination:

Maida/All purpose flour – 1 cup
Corn flour – 1/2 cup
Salt – as required
Chili powder – 1/2 tsp or as per taste
Tandoori Masala powder – 2 tbsp
Ginger and garlic – 1 tsp finely crushed
Water – required for mixing
Oil – required for deep frying

Method:

1. Wash the cauliflower/gobi well and boil it in the hot water for 3 to 5 min and then drain it and set aside.

2. Combine maida/all purpose flour, corn flour, crushed ginger and garlic, salt, chili powder and tandoori masala powder. Add water little by little and mix well to a smooth batter. The batter should not be too thick nor too thin. Now add in the boiled cauliflower/gobi and mix well in the batter and set aside for 30 min.

3. Heat oil for deep frying. Gently drop each cauliflower/gobi in the hot oil. Keep flipping and fry well on both the sides till they turn golden in color. Remove it and drain them on a paper towel to remove any excess oil. Set aside the fried cauliflower/gobi.

4. In a pan add in oil and allow it to heat up. Add in sliced onions and saute for 3 to 5 min. Add in the crushed ginger and garlic and saute for 30 seconds. Now add in the sliced bell peppers/capsicum along with required salt and saute well on high heat for 5 min.

5. Add in the tomato ketchup and mix. Add the fried cauliflower/gobi and mix well.

6. Finally, add the soy sauce and mix well. Transfer it to a serving bowl and garnish with spring onions green.

Serve this delicious Gobi Manchurian dry recipe as a appetizer or as a side dish for fried rice.
