Mixed Pulses Curry

Mixed pulses curry is a healthy and delicious dish which is packed with protein and fibre. In this preparation a variety of pulses are cooked along with other spices which makes this dish very flavorful. It is an excellent combination with roti or steamed rice.

 

Preparation time – 15 min
Cooking time – 25 min
Soaking time for pulses – 8 hrs
Serves – 6

Ingredients:

Chick peas/Chana – 1/4 cup
Black chick peas – 1/4 cup
White peas – 1/8 cup
Pinto beans – 1/4 cup ( Rajma can be substituted for pinto beans)
Green mung bean – 1/4 cup
Black eye peas – 1/4 cup
Onions – 2 medium sized chopped finely
Green Chili – 2 slit lengthwise
Tomatoes – 2 medium sized chopped finely
Ginger and garlic paste – 2 tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Salt – as required
Red chili powder – 1 tsp or as required
Garam masala powder – 2 tsp
Coriander powder – 2 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Coriander leaves/cilantro – few finely chopped
Oil – 2 tbsp

Method:

1. Wash the pulses well and soak them overnight. Drain the water and add it to the pressure cooker along with enough water and pressure cook it for 5 to 6 whistles.

2. In a pan add in 2 tbsp of oil and saute cumin seeds. Now add in the finely chopped onions, green chilies and cook till they are translucent. Add in the ginger and garlic paste and cook till the raw smell has gone.

3. Add in the tomatoes and cook well. Add in turmeric powder, coriander powder, chili powder and cook well.

4. Add in the boiled pulses along with required salt and water. Allow the curry to boil well for 10 to 15 min.

5. Finally add in the garam masala powder and finely chopped coriander leaves and mix well.

Mixed pulses curry is all ready. A perfect accompaniment with roti or steamed rice.
