This Tomato kurma is a perfect combination for idli and dosa and is very popular in the kongu region(Coimbatore) of Tamilnadu. It goes very well with Rice too. Let us learn how to make this tasty kurma.

Serves – 4
Ingredients
Juicy red tomatoes – 2 medium size
Onion – 1 medium
Coconut – 1/2 cup ( Grated or cut into pieces)
Coriander seeds – 2 tsp
Cumin seeds/Jeera – 1/2 tsp
Red chilies – 8 or as per your taste
mustard seeds- 1/4 tsp
urad dal( split black lentil) – 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves – few
Oil – 3 tbsp
salt to taste
Method
1. Chop the onion and tomatoes. Heat a tbsp of oil in a pan. Add coriander seeds,cumin seeds and red chilies. Keep the flame in medium. When the nice aroma comes add the chopped onions and fry till it gets transparent. Now add the chopped tomatoes into the pan and fry until the tomatoes gets smashed.
2. Turn off the stove and transfer the mixture into a bowl. Let it cool down. After cooling grind the mixture along with the coconut pieces into a smooth paste.
3. Heat the remaining oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds ,let it splutter. Now add urad dal and curry leaves, fry for a minute.
5. Add the ground paste into the pan and add a cup of water. Add some salt according to your taste. Let the gravy boil for atleast 5 to 10 minutes till the mixture gets thicker and turn off the stove.
