Methi (alternately called as fenugreek leaves) dal is a very flavorful and delicious recipe. It is very simple to make and it goes well with hot steamed rice or even with roti. It is a great combination of Methi leaves and toor dal with other spices.

Serves – 4 to 6
Ingredients:
Methi / Fenugreek leaves – one bunch
Toor dal – 1 cup
Onions – 1 medium sized chopped into small pieces
Green chilies – 4 or as per your taste
Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
Red chilies – 2
Asafoetida – 1/8 tsp
Salt – as per your taste
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Juice of one lime
Oil – 1 tbsp
Method:
1. Wash the toor dal couple of times and soak it for 20 minutes. After 20 min drain the water from the dal and add it to the pressure pan with 2 cups of water and let it whistle for 2 times. Switch off the stove and keep the boiled dal aside. Chop the ends of the methi leaves and wash the methi leaves well. Chop it finely and keep it aside.
2.In a pan add in the oil and allow it to heat up. Add in the mustard seeds and when the mustard seeds starts to splutter add in the red chilies and asafoetida and saute just for a minute. Now add in the chopped onions, green chilies and saute well till the onions are nice and tender. Add in the chopped methi leaves, turmeric powder and salt and cook for 1 to 2 minutes.


3. Add the boiled toor dal along with some water and let it boil well for 5 minutes. Adjust the salt according to your taste and switch off the stove. When the dal cools down a little add in the juice of one lime and mix well.


4. Enjoy this delicious Methi Dal with hot steamed rice or Roti.
