Tandoori Chicken

Tandoori chicken is a yogurt and spice marinated chicken cooked in the oven.  It is a popular dish originating from India. The Indian delicious Tandoori Chicken is actually very easy to make at home on the stove top. Let’s learn how to make this tasty Tandoori chicken on the stove.

Preparation time – 10 to 15 minutes
Cooking time – 30 minutes
Soaking time – minimum an hour or more or overnight in the fridge.
Serves – 6

Ingredients:

Chicken leg or thigh or whole – 1 kg
Yogurt – 4 tbs
Ginger & garlic paste – 1 tbsp
Chili powder – 1 tbs or as per your taste
Tandoori masala (available in all Indian grocery stores) – 2 tbsp
Oil – 2 tbsp
Salt – 1 1/2 tsp or as per your taste

Method:

1. Clean and wash the chicken well. Remove the skin of the chicken before cleaning it. If it is a whole chicken remove the skin and cut into big pieces. Add all the ingredients with chicken in a bowl and mix well. Let it marinate for an hour or more.

If you want make it for tomorrow, you can marinate the chicken and keep it in the fridge the previous day. The chicken would be more tasty if it is marinated for a long time.

  

2. Now heat a pan and add the marinated chicken in the pan. Turn the pieces often until the mixture starts boiling. Now cover the pan with lid and keep the flame on a medium. Chicken mixture would leave more water, it will look like a curry but no need to worry, keep cooking and turn the pieces frequently to cook well. Once the mixture gets thicker,leave the pan open. Turn the chicken pieces till it gets dry and roasted nicely. Now the delicious Tandoori chicken is ready to serve.
