Kandi Podi

Kandi Podi (toor dal spice powder) is a classic Andhra recipe prepared by dry roasting lentil with other spices. It is very flavorful and aromatic. It is delicious when you have it with hot steamed rice and ghee.

Cooking time – 20 min

Ingredients:

Toor dal – 1 cup
Red Chilies – 5 or as per your taste
Cumin seeds/Jeera – 2 tsp
Garlic – 3-4
Salt – as per your taste

Method:

In a pan dry roast all the above ingredients except the garlic on a low flame for 15 – 20 minutes. Dry roast till the toor dal becomes slightly reddish in color. Add in the garlic and saute for a minute and turn off the stove. Let it cool down completely. Put them in a blender/mixie with some salt and grind it to a fine powder.

 

The aromatic Kandi podi is all ready to enjoy with hot steamed rice and ghee.
