Chili Paneer

Chili Paneer is a popular Indo – Chinese preparation. In this the cubes of paneer are cooked along with a nice chinese gravy. This is such a delicious recipe and it goes very well with fried rice, noodles or even with roti.

Preparation time – 15 min
Time for marination – 1 hour
Cooking time – 25 min
Serves – 4 – 6

Ingredients:

Paneer – cut into cubes
All purpose flour/Maida – 1/4 cup
Corn flour – 1/4 cup
Chili Powder – 1 tsp
Ginger and Garlic paste – 1 tsp
Red food coloring – a pinch (optional)
Salt – 1 tsp
Onion – 2 medium sized sliced lengthwise
Bell peppers/Capsicum – 2 medium sized sliced lengthwise
Garlic – 3 cloves chopped finely
Ginger – 1/4 inch chopped finely
Green chilies – 3 sliced lengthwise
Soy sauce – 2 tbsp
Oil – 2 tbsp for pan frying

Method:

1.In a bowl add in the Paneer cubes, all purpose flour/maida, corn flour, chili powder, ginger and garlic paste, salt and the food coloring. Mix well till the paneer is well coated with all the other ingredients. Let it marinate for an hour.

2. Heat up some oil in a pan. Now shallow fry the marinated paneer cubes till it is nice and golden in colour on all the sides. Keep aside the fried paneer.

(do not overcook the paneer as it makes the paneer rubbery)

3.  In a pan heat 2 tbsp of oil. Once the oil is hot add in the sliced onions, ginger, garlic, green chilies and saute for a minute. Now add in the sliced bell peppers/capsicum and saute for 5 minutes on a medium high flame. Add in the paneer cubes, mix well and saute for 2- 3 minutes. Add 2 tbsp of soy sauce and mix.

Mix 2 tbsp of corn flour in a 1/2 cup of water and add it to the gravy.
