Thayir Semiya which is also called as Semiya Bagala bath is a quick and easy dish prepared using curd and vermicelli/semiya. It is a great alternative to the usual curd rice. It is a wonderful dish which can be prepared easily at any time of the day.
Preparation time – 10 min
Cooking time – 15 min
Serves – 4
Ingredients:
Roasted semiya/vermicelli – 1 cup
Water – 2 cups
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Urad dal – 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida/hing – 1/8 tsp
Green chilies – 2 finely minced
Ginger – 1 tsp finely minced
Curry leaves – few
Cilantro/coriander leaves – few finely chopped
Salt – as required
Cashews – few pieces
Curd – 1 cup
Milk – 1/4 cup
Grapes – few
Pomegranate seeds – few
Oil – 3 tsp
Method:
1. Boil 1 cup of semiya/vermicelli in 2 cups of water. Boil it well till the semiya becomes nice and soft. Once it is well cooked drain the water and rinse it in some cold water. Set aside the boiled semiya.
2. Heat 3 tsp of oil in a pan. Add in mustard seeds and when it splutters add in the urad dal, green chilies, curry leaves and ginger. Add in cashews and asafoetida/hing and saute for 15 sec.
3. Transfer the tempering to the cooked semiya and mix well. Add in required salt and mix.
4. Now add in the curd and milk and mix well. Adjust the salt and the consistency according to your taste.
5. Add the grapes and the pomegranate seeds and mix. Finally add in the cilantro/coriander leaves and mix.
