Bhatura is one of the most popular Indian dish from the cuisine of Punjab. It’s a deep fried flatbreads made with all purpose flour (maida). Chole (chana masala) is the best combination for bhatura. Chole Bhatura is a very popular Indian dish all around the world. Let us learn how to make bhatura and try this bhatura at home by following our step by step recipe.
Preparation time – 2 hours
Cooking time – 20 minutes
Serves – 4
Ingredients:
Maida or all purpose flour – 2 cups
Rava or sooji or semolina – 3 tbsp
Yogurt – 1/2 cup
Baking powder – 1 tsp
Sugar – 1 tbsp
Oil – 2 tsp
Water – Required for kneading
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying
Method:
1. Mix the maida/all purpose flour with baking powder and salt in a bowl.
Add the Rava/sooji/semolina and sugar. Mix well. Now add the yogurt and mix again. Add water little by little and mix slowly to make a soft dough by kneading. Add a tsp of oil on top of the dough and knead lightly. Cover the dough with a wet cloth and keep aside for minimum 2 hours.
2. Knead the dough for 5 to 10 minutes. If the dough is sticky add a tsp of oil while kneading. Divide the dough into equal size balls ( approximately 12 balls). Roll them into a round shape as shown in the picture.
3. Heat oil in a pan for deep frying the bhaturas. Drop the round shaped bhaturas in the hot oil. Keep frying evenly on both the sides till it is nice and golden in color. Remove the bhatura and drain it on a paper towel to remove the excess oil. Hot Bhaturas are ready to enjoy.
To check whether the oil is hot, drop a tiny ball of dough in the oil. If the dough raises to the top,the oil is ready for frying.
