Vazhakkai Bhaji

Vazhakkai which is called as Plantain Bhajii is a quick and delicious Indian snack preparation which is similar to fritter. There are various varieties of Bhajis to prepare. It is usually prepared by dipping any kind of vegetable in gram flour/besan batter and deep frying. It tastes delicious with a cup of hot tea.

Preparation time – 10 min
Cooking time – 15 min
Makes – 12 (approx)

Ingredients:

Gram flour/besan – 1 cup
Vazhakkai/Plantain – 1 medium sized
Red chili powder – 1/2 tsp or as per your taste
Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt – as per your taste
Water – required for making the batter
Oil – for deep frying

Method:

1.  Peel the skin of the vazhakkai/Plantain and slice them thin using a slicer. Keep the sliced vazhakkai/plantain in the water until it is ready to use.

In a mixing bowl add in the gram flour/besan, red chili powder, cumin powder and salt and mix well. Add in water little by little and make it like a thick batter. The batter should easily coat the Vazhakkai/plantain. The batter should not be too thick.

2. Heat oil in a deep pan for frying. Dip the vazhakkai/plantain in the besan batter nicely on both the sides. Gently slide the vazhakkai/plantain in the hot oil and fry till it is nice and golden in color on both the sides. Drain them on a paper towel to remove the excess oil.

 

                                             Enjoy the crispy Vazhakkai/Plantain bhaji with a cup of hot tea.
